The Swiss Nanoscience Institute (SNI) at the University of Basel is a center of excellence for nanoscience and nanotechnology. It emerged from the National Research Focus (NFS) on Nanoscience and was founded in 2006 by the Canton of Aargau and the University of Basel to promote research, education and technology transfer in nanoscience and nanotechnology in northwestern Switzerland. As a result of the Canton of Aargau's high-tech strategy, in which nanotechnology is an important pillar of promoting innovation, the SNI plays an even more important role as a link between cutting-edge research and industry.
